What do you think: How many active users are we on #hubzilla ? I mean, really active, posting regulary. My guess: 100.

If the stats are any good there were 392 last month + plus members of some hubs which opted out of the statistics.

I gave it a go at barrett.hillexplorer.com/channel/mark but my shared hosting account clearly can't cope with it. Everything seemed to be working fine until I added the diaspora and gnu.social plugins. I've seen no indication that there's any connection other than being able to find specific connections if I search for their exact username. And when I try and connect, I get an infinite stream of Channel Added notifications scrolling down the right hand side, and no notification at the receivers end that I'm trying to connect to them. And now the site is just constantly cycling between available and unavailable. As it's unlikely I'll be running my own home server, it looks like I'll be sticking with Friendica. Shame as I really did like the look of hubzilla.
Mark, you might try to limit message delivery. Have a look at /admin/site though shared hosting can be tricky. Or look for a hub with open registrations.

After enabling federation plugins, you need to also enable the plugins for your channel to be able to use them.
I did that - that's when it all went wrong unfortunately. I think it's struggling in the background to make that connection with the federation but I just don't have the knowledge or technical knowhow when it comes to webservers to be able to even begin solving it.

That is not very demanding on the server actually...

Possibly your mysql config is not suitable (max_client_connections). Can you change it?
How did you get that look, @Mark Barrett ? I like it. Is that a special theme? Good luck with #hubzilla!
@Stephan Maus It' sthe Suckerberg theme from https://github.com/DeadSuperHero/hubzilla-themes
Mark is using Friendica, but @Sean Tilley recently updated his Hubzilla theme package for version 3, if I remember correctly. You can edit many features without adding extra themes too.
I'll keep hubzilla installed for a while longer and see if the hubzilla support forum can shed any light on my issues. Just out of interest... if I'm supposedly connected to diaspora using the plugin... my hubzilla posts should appear in search results from friendica, yes? And if I search for an hashtag in hubzilla, it should show results across diaspora and friendica aswell as hubzilla? At the moment, I'm getting nothing at all despite the plugins being enabled on the channel
https://the-federation.info/hubzilla > click last month users in the chartback to the topic. There are more hubz and users I guess. One of my two hubs is not listed there. Tried to register it there but I guess it is not accepted because I did not activate the federation plugins.
My search results in hubzilla do not include imported posts from e.g. gnu social. My friendica on a shared hosting account do include my hubzilla post results.

You can follow Diaspora tags by selecting those tags on the settings/featured (Diaspora Protocol) page. This will also publish your public posts to Diaspora and include those posts in tag results. Not all Diaspora servers use the Diaspora tag relays, but this should relay to Friendica sites because they do.
We don't normally follow tags here. We join forums/groups instead. Posting to a forum is like following hashtags but you would use !forum instead of #tag and you have to connect with the forum first.
The first question is more complicated. I don't know what permission role you selected for your channel. Some of these work well with other networks and some do not. The default "social - mostly public" is more restrictive than what you may be used to on Friendica. We HATE spam and the default permissions make spamming everybody more difficult than with many other decentralised networks. But you are in charge of what permissions are on offer and can set this to anything you like and if you want spam, you can get it. We won't stop you.
My test site gets search results and public posts from all networks, including GNU-Social and Mastodon and Friendica and Diaspora and Hubzilla. So that would be a configuration issue.
mysql max client connections is set to 1000. Just been testing it some more. Something is failing whenever I try to connect to another account. That's when I get the endless notification stream and the site dropping to unavailable. Even another hubzilla account.
I guess it's just not a mistake in general, it's working on my shared hosting herkenhoff.nl-Site, but somehow not on the server ibb.info, e.g. https://ibb.info/search?search=updated.
Search seems to work for me https://ibb.info/search?f=&search=Zeitpunkt
@Stephan Maus I just saw also my second hub vanished from the list https://the-federation.info/hubzilla because I switched off the federation plugins. As far as I remember this is the reason (not) to get listed.
So it should be more hubs and hubzillians arround. Maybe much more?
