So here's the story. I had just started working at Netscape. We were very deep into the first releases of netscape 2 (the first releases with javascript). On my employee home page I put a little demo script of some fun things you could do with it. One of my demos (called "Mike's Annoying JavaScript Popup") would open a new window about 150px square with a photo of me in it. If you moved the mouse near it, it would vanish and popup elsewhere on the screen, far away from your cursor. It turns out you could sneak up on it from above and close it from the window manager. But I figured I should make this annoying as well. If you closed it from the window manager, I popped up two more windows. On a Windows machine you literally had to turn off the computer to get rid of it.

All was well until I started seeing my code on porn sites with popups containing bouncing titties and dick pics you couldn't get rid of without pulling the plug on your computer. I removed the fork/duplicate code from the demo, but the genie was out of the bottle by that point.
